We first met at Stanford University on the first day of training at iD Tech Camps in 2007, but it wasn’t until the end of the summer that a connection was finally made when Burke said, “So I hear you’re down with JC?”  This sparked the beginning of our first real conversation, and set the tone for our future lives together.

In 2008, while creating a video on Slovak Folk Crafts, Lizzie stumbled upon the opportunity to work with children in Slovakia.  Not yet engaged, we wanted to pursue the possibility together, but were unsure of how to make it happen until Burke proposed in February of 2009.  Six months later on July 19th, 2009, we were married and ready to begin our adventures together.  Just two days after the wedding we were on a plane to our honeymoon in Croatia and then to Slovakia to start the work that we felt God called us there to do.

We began working at ZS Narnia B. Bystrica, an elementary school in central Slovakia.  We loved working with the children in our school, but what we really loved in Slovakia was the fellowship with the families and students involved in Youth with a Mission (YWAM).  While we didn’t initially plan to join YWAM, we found that while it may no longer be God’s will for us to work with Narnia, we were still being called to serve in Slovakia.
